County Food Show

We all went to the 4-H County FoodShow and did great! There were lots of yummy dishes there-quiches, pizzas, rice, ants on a log, salad, cookies, and tons of great displays! We all had to talk to a judge about how healthy our dish was. We all had a great time and learned lots.

Horticulture Lesson

We learned all about plants and compost Sunday. We got to make our own terrariums and grow our own flowers! Ms. Janelle taught us how to make compost and what to put in it. We learned you never put orange peel in compost because it has too much acid.Ms. Janelle showed us how to plant seeds. We got to plant things in a 2-liter bottle. There were all kinds of seeds we could use. Some of us chose marigolds, some picked bachelors's buttons.

4-H Food Show

We learned how to do the 4-H Food Show! We went to the Childress' house and we watched Andrew make a Broccoli Quiche. Then we learned how to cook it. We also got to try Applesauce Oat Muffins. Then Annabelle gave a speech on her Healthy Chocolate Chip Cookies. They sounded really yummy! She used whole wheat flour and stuvia to make them so healthy. Next our leader, Ms. Jean, taught us about My Plate. It's like an eating healthy guideline. We even colored our own My Plates. We all sampled the quiche, and it  was SO good!

Broccoli Quiche

You'll need:
<!        3 eggs
<!--        1 cup of milk
<!--1 cup of broccoli - flowerets
<!--1 cup of Parmesan cheese
<!--1½ cups of Swiss cheese
<!A prepared piecrust - we used the kind that comes in its own baking tin
<!--¼ teaspoon of salt
<!--½ teaspoon of black pepper

Pour the milk into a big bowl.   Break the three eggs, one at a time, into a measuring cup. This will let you fish out any pieces of shell before the eggs go into the large bowl.
Add the salt, pepper and the cheeses.
Stir everything together with the whisk.
Pour the egg mixture into the prepared pie crust. Add the broccoli. Make sure it is spread evenly around the quiche.
Put the pie tin on the cookie sheet and have Mom or whoever is helping you carry the quiche to the oven.
Bake the quiche for 35 to 40 minutes at 350 until the top is nicely browned.

Clover Kids learn about music

Our Clover Kid group went to the music store to learn about music. We learned about wind instruments, percussion instruments, and string instruments.*Interesting fact: A piano is a string instrument because it has strings in it!* The people at the music store were really nice. They let us play all the instruments and gave us each a kazoo! We learned a lot and had a great time. Thanks, Guitars,Etc.!
